This Privacy Policy explains what information DailyFinancialNews.com (“DFN,” “we,” “us” or “our”) collects when you read our site or contact us, how we use it, and the choices you have. DFN is a news site: you can read every article without creating an account, subscribing or giving us any personal information.
The short version
- We do not offer user accounts, comments or a newsletter, so we do not ask you to register or sign up for anything.
- We collect the information you choose to send us by email, plus the basic technical data any website receives when you visit.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- A third-party market data widget from TradingView appears on some pages and is governed by TradingView’s own privacy policy.
- Privacy questions and requests go to support@dailyfinancialnews.com.
Information we collect
Information you send us
When you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message, such as a correction request, news tip or question. We use it only to read and respond to your message and to keep a record of corrections and requests.
Please do not email us account numbers, passwords, Social Security numbers or other sensitive financial information. We will never ask you for them.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our site and web hosting provider automatically record basic technical information when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the page that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. We use this information to deliver pages, keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix technical problems.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. DFN runs on WordPress, which uses cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as cookies for site administrators who sign in and cookies that support security and performance. Readers do not need to sign in, and these cookies are not used to build advertising profiles.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from reading DFN, though some site features may not work as intended.
Analytics
We may use a web analytics service, such as Google Analytics or WordPress statistics tools, to understand how many people visit DFN, which articles they read and how they find us. These services may use cookies or similar technologies and collect information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device type and referring website. We use this information in aggregate to improve our coverage and the site. If we use Google Analytics, you can learn how Google handles this data at How Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Third-party market data widget
Some DFN pages display market data through an embedded widget provided by TradingView. When the widget loads, your browser connects directly to TradingView’s servers. TradingView states that its widgets do not set cookies, and that it receives the address of the page showing the widget, the widget type, the symbols displayed and your IP address in order to deliver the data. TradingView’s handling of that information is governed by the TradingView Privacy Policy, not this policy. If you click a symbol or the TradingView link, you will leave DFN for TradingView’s website.
How we use information
- To operate, maintain and secure the site.
- To respond to your emails, including corrections, tips and privacy requests.
- To understand readership and improve our coverage.
- To detect and prevent spam, fraud and other misuse.
- To comply with the law and respond to valid legal requests.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share information only with service providers that help us run the site, such as our web hosting and email providers and any analytics service we use, and only as needed for them to provide those services. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of DFN, our readers or others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the publication.
Data retention
We keep emails and correction records for as long as needed to respond and maintain an accurate record of changes to our articles. Technical logs are kept for a limited period set by our hosting and security providers. When information is no longer needed, we delete it.
Data security
We use reasonable technical and administrative safeguards to protect the information we hold, including secure (HTTPS) connections and restricted administrative access. No website or email system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we have about you and how we use it.
- Give you a copy of that information.
- Correct information that is inaccurate.
- Delete your personal information.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Residents of California and other U.S. states with consumer privacy laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, may have these rights under state law. We will not treat you differently for exercising them. To make a request, email support@dailyfinancialnews.com with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also use an authorized agent where state law allows.
Children’s privacy
DFN is a general-audience news site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact support@dailyfinancialnews.com and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our articles link to government agencies, regulators, companies and other publishers so you can check our sources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for them.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, for example if we launch a newsletter or add new site features. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. If we make a significant change, we will note it on this page.
